I have joined a vpn network to anonymize email activity. The vpn service is: freevpn.me. I have had no issues whatsoever with this vpn provider which is supposedly donation-based. On Dec 11, 2013, however, I had received notifications by Kaspersky antivirus which stated: "block: DoS.Generic.SynFlood" from 40 different IPs!! I did a whois look up, and a few of the IPs were reportedly well-know for spam activity. But some of the IPs included companies like Comcast Internet service, Time Warner Inc, and stuff like that. I don't know if this is the problem of the VPN, which is supposed to have at least 128 bit encryption and uses OPEN VPN. Hope this helps.
