They send FAKE checks. If you attempt to deposit or cash the check you can be charged with fraud. Before attempting to deposit or cash any check, call their bank to verify funds and existence of account.

Scammer from Craigslist. Ad clearly said no texting and they texted anyway. Wanted me to use email. Had another scammer try the same trick. Doesn't read the ad or they wouldn't try hard to do what they want and not what you are requesting. Try really hard to dominate the whole process. Don't be railroaded!

The laws about stolen checks are written in such a way that innocent people at the receiving end who THINK that they're making a legitimate sale can wind up being legally and financially responsible for the crimes of the person they accept payment from. This guy tries to buy cars and other expensive items on craigslist and if you make a deal with him, by the time you realize you've been scammed, he'll have your property, your bank will have removed the money you thought you'd been paid from your account (or they'll overdraft your account/put it in the red if the money isn't there anymore), the police will be looking to arrest you, and government attorneys will be charging you with crimes that carry heavy punitive fines and jail sentences. In short, this guy is a piece of **** who is okay with destroying your life in order to make a little quick money. I'm sure it changes all the time but when he contacted me, he was using the phone number: (608) 352-0221.
